My first paint affair was with acrylic. It still holds a special place in my heart, but when I stumbled upon India ink, I fell in love. As much as I love bold colors, there is something especially captivating about the drama of black and white. The dynamic range of values and the way it interacts with the paper have me totally enthralled. When I discovered that India ink comes in a wide range of colors as well, that was a game changer. Now I can add splashes of color to monochrome pieces; what more could I ask for?
I enjoy painting real life subjects, particularly animals. The challenge of capturing their personalities and beauty is something I really delight in. On the other hand, I also adore doing abstract work. The ability to unapologetically smear, splatter and brush my emotions across the page is so freeing. I delight in seeing how my work can evoke emotions in others as well. At the end of the day, we all have sorrow, frustration, and joy. We are more similar than some people realize. That shared experience and those feelings of happiness are what I love about sharing my art with the world.
